In this process, in vitro fertilized (IVF) eggs are implanted in the surrogate’s uterus. The embryo that’s implanted is typically not genetically related to the surrogate. The egg may be from the intended mother or from a donor, and the sperm may be from the intended father or from a donor. It’s also possible to use donated embryos. All expenses related to the pregnancy are covered by the intended parents, and surrogates are compensated for their significant investment.
